The Texas longhorn is a hybrid breed of cow that was a result of breeding Spanish retinto cattle with the English cattle that were brought from Europe. They are characterized with their long horns that can extend to over 8 feet tip to tip. Texas became the perfect breeding ground for these cattle, as Spanish cowboys and travelers pushed cattle North for food and resources, while Anglo-American settlers brought cattle South searching for land.
